About Us

We believe in the dynamic of the meeting between people

The bottom line of our organisation is that you feel that a visit at Ljungskile Folkhögskola Kurs & Konferens makes a difference. That is why we have chosen to focus on teaching and providing tools to continue working after the end of your conference. We do this between the ocean and mountain, in a simple, historical and inspiring environment. We believe in the dynamic of the meeting between people. We create room to grow and give you the power to change. Welcome!

We offer: The good conference – supporting the ambitions of the youth of today

When you choose to place your conference at Ljungskile Folkhögskola Kurs & Konferens you make a difference. You support you own CSR-profile as all excess from your meeting will be used to enable the schools work in continuing providing opportunities for youth to fulfill their ambitions. The conference company Kustkonferens AB is owned by the foundation Ljungskile Folkhögskola, whose mission is to educate young adults.

Short about our history

Ljungskile folkhögskola was founded in 1923 by Birger Magnus Hellerstedt, inspired by the Danish Folkhögskola movement with priest and teacher Gruntvig and a front figure. His ideas, based on conversation and the exchange of experience, had become popular in Sweden during the 19th century and there were already several educations centres with these beliefs around the country. Gruntvig meant that everyone, not only the teacher, could contribute to the learning situation. He believed in people meeting on equal terms. This may sound obvious today, but it definitely was not in those days. We are proud of our history and our ability to continue evolving as society changes.

When our main building, Västkustgården, was built in 1927 it contained the entire school: classrooms, kitchen, dining room and boarding rooms. Since then, many new buildings have been erected and our school has grown. In 2013, when we turned 90 years old, we completed a major renovation to meet modern demands.
